Golfing for Community Action – A Day to Remember

Friday, August 8, 2014 was a day to remember, as we hosted the 6th Annual Golfing for Community Action event!  Fifteen teams came together at Watertown Golf Club in support of a great cause – school supplies and personal care items for children of low-income families.  The weather could not have been better with a warm sun and gentle breeze.

MaryAllyn Baeslack Hole-In-One Winner

MaryAllyn Baeslack shows off her lucky pink ball that won her a hole-in-one prize of $10,000.

For one golfer, the conditions were ideal … so ideal, in fact, that she hit a once-in-a-lifetime shot.  When MaryAllyn Baeslack grabbed her hybrid 6 wood and teed up at the 5th hole, she could not have imagined what would happen next.  MaryAllyn’s ball traveled 137 yards before landing in the cup.  Cheers could be heard, as her team mates congratulated her on a hole-in-one with a $10,000 cash prize.  What a way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Community Action!

After the tournament, the club house was a buzz, as the teams gathered for dinner.  Prizes were awarded to the top three teams:

  • 1st place with a score of 57 – Kris Dumas, Del Leween, Shane Leween, and Lynn Burke
  • 2nd place with a score of 57 – Watertown Savings Bank: Chuck Capone, Mark Bellinger, Brian Navarra and Mike Burgess
  • 3rd place with a score of 59 – Samaritan Medical Center: Kyle Pignone, Dustin Youngs, Josh Cox, and Garret Hayes

Mike Bartholomew won a heated putting contest and took home tickets to the Yankees versus the White Sox on August 24.  Laurie Davis and Mike Burgess were recognized for longest drives.  And it was no surprise that MaryAllyn Baeslack won closest to the pin.  You can’t get much closer than a hole in one!

Thanks to our many sponsors, donors, golfers and volunteers for a great day of golf!
